Lenten Bytes

"Your fast ends in quarrelling and fighting" (Is. 58:4). It is easy to perform an action without having one's heart engaged. The exterior observance is conducted while the corresponding interior disposition is noticeably absent. The result of such a disconnect is the evil that surfaces. It fails to produce the unity and peace that is desired. Actions are prompted by intentions. If an action is aimed at being acclaimed, then the intention of satisfying self can lead to the fruits of the flesh of envy, hate and disharmony (Gal. 5:20-21). However, if the intention is to please God, then the action will produce growth in faith and bear the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). Lord, may my actions and intentions be dedicated to Your glory. Amen.
