The beautiful image of Mary and Joseph presenting the infant Jesus in the Temple to God (Lk. 2:22-40) is to be celebrated and imitated. Mary and Joseph not only followed the law, but they also observed the ‘spirit’ of the law. It was not a forced action but freely consented.
They were simultaneously presenting themselves and Jesus with the sacrifice of their hearts, all of which will be ‘pierced’ for the salvation of the world. Parents and children today must keep presenting ourselves to the Lord, not out of law but out of love.
Lord Jesus, You willingly gave Yourself as an eternal sacrifice for our salvation. May we be willing to have our hearts pierced as we present our lives as an acceptable sacrifice. Amen.
