John’s opening line in today’s reading (Jn. 20:1-2, 11-18) poetically sets the stage for the drama that was to unfold. He writes, “On the first day of the week … early in the morning”, and then what follows not only affects the normalcy of the day, but ripples through all time.

The resurrection of the Lord, affirmed on the first day of the week, elicits worship every first day of the week thereafter. The resurrection brings new joy, hope and grace. As a people of the resurrection, let us rise above all fear and sadness, and live in peace and joy.

Lord Jesus, the power of Your resurrection lifts us out of any tomb and restores our life. May we joyfully proclaim this good news and choose to live as a people who are promised the gift of eternal life. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
