We are amazed at the miracles of Jesus and grateful for His forgiveness. Both are present in today’s gospel (Mt. 9:1-8). However, do we pay attention to the poignant question of the Lord, “Why do you harbour evil thoughts?” (Mt. 9:4).

This question not only blinds us from seeing the good, but it also serves as a prison which keeps us in the dark. It prevents us from walking in the light of faith and love. If we choose, evil thoughts can be quelled by calling on the Lord who is good.

Lord Jesus, Your goodness is revealed through Your miracles, healing and mercy in our lives. Banish the evil thoughts we harbour and lead us by the light of Your love. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
