We worship and praise God for His blessings. We do not worship and idolise our blessings over God. Jesus makes this clear in today’s gospel (Lk. 14:25-33). Our parents and all our possessions are gifts from God, but they are not God.

We give God priority over all that exists so that everything is seen in its proper perspective. People, places and things are meant to reveal the goodness of God. When any gets taken away, all that remains is God. True worship belongs to God alone.

Lord Jesus, You are the source, fountain and summit of our lives. May we give You thanks for all Your blessings, and choose to put You first and above all that exists. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
