Lenten Bytes

Repent and live. This graceful truth is the core message of Jesus. At the beginning of His Ministry, Jesus said, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Mt. 3:2). The Season of Lent invites us to own our sins, take them before our God, ask for forgiveness and strive to move away from sin so that we may once more draw close to God.

Jesus came to call sinners to repentance (Lk. 5:32). When we turn away from sin and turn back to God, He mercifully and lovingly grants life. This is the sign of Jonah (Lk. 11:32) for when he preached, the Ninevites repented and lived (Jon. 3:10). Like them, let us listen to our God, repent from our sins, and walk in His ways into eternal life.

Lord Jesus, may Your grace empower me to repent from my sins, turn back to You with all my heart, and walk in Your ways of life. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
