Today's Byte

Today's gospel highlights the physical and spiritual connection that exists between the ear and the mouth (Mk. 7:32-35). We learn to speak by hearing and imitating the words we hear. Parents are encouraged to speak with, and read for, the child in the womb. But if we cannot hear, then our speech becomes impeded.

Jesus, the Word, touched the ear of the deaf man and he spoke. If we choose to listen to our Lord, then we will become imitators and sharers of the good news. If we are deaf to Him, then our speech will not be words of love. We need to discern how to listen to the Lord, and when to be deaf to the 'world', so that our speech may reflect His way, truth and life.

Lord Jesus, touch our ears to listen to Your voice, so that our speech may please and praise You at all times. Amen.
